Overview

Philippe Shangti (b. 1983) is a multidisciplinary French contemporary artist. His multidisciplinary practice utilizes strategies of confrontation and provocation to comment on contemporary hypocrisies and iniquities. He works largely in photography, in which he creates titillating tableaux of nearly-nude women scrawled with pithy toss-offs. Shangti often uses the recognizable iconography of luxury brands including Chanel, Dior, Gucci, and Ferrari in his provocative set-ups, heightening the works’ commentary on commercial culture. He has exhibited in cities across the world, and in 2019 he represented Andorra at the 58th Venice Biennale. Shangti has shown at institutions including the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Carcassonne, France, and the Erarta Museum in Saint Petersburg.
